Where can I buy an IDTV?

Most big department stores and major electrical retailers should stock IDTVs. You can also buy them online at a variety of e-commerce sites. Go to our online shop listings for details.

If you are buying an IDTV to receive the Freeview or Top Up TV services, you should do a postcode search (either use the DTG facility yourself or ask the retailer to do it at the shop) to ensure that you can get the service in your area. Around 20% of the UK population is either unable to receive the full Freeview service or can’t receive it at all.

For Freeview, it is also advisable to get an aerial survey performed, particularly if your rooftop aerial is an old one. It may need to be changed (either because its condition has deteriorated over the years or because it now has to tune into a different frequency range) or re-aligned (because it now has to point at a different transmitter). If you want to find an aerial installer in your area, go to the CAI site.

Without an aerial survey, even a positive post-code result can not be interpreted as guaranteeing reception of the Freeview channels. This is a particularly important point for prospective IDTV purchasers to note given the fact that an IDTV generally represents a significant investment for most people.
